AUS professor edits an intercultural communication book focusing on the Arab world

There is a need for more books that portray Arabs in a less stereotypical and biased way, an associate professor in the Department of English in the American University of Sharjah (AUS) said in a recent interview.

“Especially after 9/11 and recently with the Arab Spring, Arabs are often portrayed as being aggressive, fanatic and violent, particularly by the Western media,” Dr. Rana Raddawi noted.

AUS Professor Appointed IEEE Distinguished Lecturer

Ghaleb Husseini, Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at American University of Sharjah (AUS) has been appointed as a Distinguished Lecturer (DL) for 2014-2015 by the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBS). EMBS is the world’s largest international society of biomedical engineers, having 9,100 members across 97 countries. Dr. Husseini was one of only eight speakers selected worldwide. Of these, two were appointed from the ‘Middle East and Africa’ region - the other being based in South Africa.

The AUS team will compete in diesel category and take part in Shell Eco-Marathon Asia. The event will take place at the Sepang Ping International Circuit in Kuala Lumpur from July 4-7, 2013. The aim is to go the longest distance on just 1 liter of diesel.
