Its time to revitalize netiquette at AUS

How people behave online could reflect who they may be perceived to be in reality. It is often said that people are more likely to display incivility on social media networks than in real life. There has been a number of studies that support such claims. While many blame this spike of incivility on social networks, I find the cause of rudeness, quite frankly, to be the person instigating negative disputes. Online communications are faceless, abstract and impersonal. This make it easier to attack, insult and belittle the other person that if it were face to face. There are no human emotions involved.

Being a student at AUS is not just about studying, believe it or not. It is about becoming an active member of its community; developing it as well as developing yourself in the process. What I like about being part of this particular community is the distinct element of diversity present at AUS. No one would feel left out because there is a little bit of something for everyone. And even then, if there isn’t something for you, you could easily create your own student club.

Syrians at AUS Celebrate Independence Day by Aiding Refugees

In a series of events held April 20 at AUS under the title “Syria— In the Name of the Homeland,” the American University of Sharjah’s (AUS) Syrian Cultural Club and Student Council raised AED 10,565 for charity.

Proceeds of the night, which celebrated the April 17 Syrian Independence Day, went to the UAE’s Red Crescent Society to aid Syrian refugees.

Running for a Good Cause

Four members of the American University of Sharjah community will participate in the London to Brighton 100km ultra-marathon on May 25, 2013 to aid families affected by congenital heart defects. So far, they have raised approximately AED 30,000 for the cause.
