The American University of Sharjah (AUS) has one of the best libraries in the region.  It provides collections, services and programs to support the curricular and research needs of the university community.

Discover the BEST Undergraduate and Graduate Degrees offered by American University of Sharjah.

The majority of the AUS library's growing physical collection of 140,000 items is in English; the library provides access to over 200,000 electronic books and there are also many materials available in Arabic. The library’s website can be used to search for library materials from any location on or off campus. At library.aus.edu students and faculty can access e-books, online databases, full-text journals and other digital resources.

To help you take full advantage of what the library offers, here are the top ten tips to help you make the best use of the AUS Library:

  1. We’re here to help you

The library has librarians, IT specialists and staff who can help you learn all about the library. Be it for personal studies, class projects, research etc., come to the library, we are here to help you.

  1. You can borrow up to 30 books

Undergraduate students can borrow up to 30 books for 3 weeks at a time, we have about 140,000 print books and media items and about 200,000 ebooks.  We have 140 desktop computers you can use, and laptops you can borrow from the Circulation Desk. This is all available to help you do well in your courses.

  1. Your student ID card is your library card

It’s that simple. All you need to access all that is available for you in the library is your AUS ID card. You will need it to borrow books, CDs, DVDs and to book study rooms and media rooms. By the way, when you are borrowing items from the library, try our self-check-out stations, they are very cool, you might be impressed.

  1. You can renew your books online

When you borrow books or other items and realize later that you need them for longer than the original return date, you can always renew your books online, over the phone or in person.  There will be fines for overdue items so be careful to return or renew them on-time.

  1. You need to follow a few rules

In order to keep the library as clean as possible you are only allowed to bring water – that means no coffee or food.  Also, when you come in please try to lower your voice…. And when you enter the library’s “No-Talking-Zone” you will need to be quiet.

  1. The library website is available for you 24/7

The library web site is a great place to start your research and to get help and the good news is, the library website– library.aus.edu, is available for you anytime.

  1. Your professors can put books on reserve for you

When a professor tells you there are books “on reserve”, simply ask for the items at the Circulation and Reserves desk of the library and again and always, remember to bring your AUS ID card.

  1. The library can be accessed from anywhere

You can access most of the library’s databases from home through the library web site. When you are off-campus, you will need your username and password to login.

  1. At AUS, you will have to use the library

As an AUS student you will have to use the library where you will find the scholarly materials needed to write your research papers. In other words, to succeed at AUS, you have to make the library one of your best friends and make a habit of coming to the library for your academic needs.

  1. Remember -- we’re here to help, just ask.
