Nasser Hamdan, Professor and Interim Head of the Department of Physics at the College of Arts and Sciences at American University of Sharjah (AUS), has won a Regular Poster Presentation Award at the Qatar Foundation Annual Research Conference (ARC’13). In addition to a trophy and certificate presented at the Award Ceremony on Monday, November 25, 2013, the award carries a valuable monetary prize. The award, according to Dr. Gautam Sen, Vice Provost for Research and Graduate Studies at American University of Sharjah, is ‘quite an honor’ and an ‘important recognition’ of Dr. Hamdan’s research.
The conference, which attracted a large number of international delegates, had the theme ‘Qatar's Cross-cutting Research Grand Challenges.’ According to its website, the two-day event, held at the Qatar National Convention Centre, built upon ‘nationwide efforts to advance Qatar's ambitious research agenda,’ and provided ‘a unique platform to activate the multidisciplinary collaboration needed to tackle the most pressing national challenges in research.’ Therefore the conference focused upon issues such as ‘Qatar’s cyber and water security; solar and renewable energy solutions; health management systems, as well as the preservation of its Arabian heritage and language.'
