The Office of Research and Graduate Studies at American University of Sharjah (AUS) has subscribed to Pivot and Research Professional - two major international databases. This makes AUS the first university in the UAE to subscribe, and one of only a handful in the MENA region to do so. The databases provide listings of research funding and other opportunities and access is available to everyone with an AUS email address. In addition to making online searches for opportunities, both databases allow users to set up email alerts.

Pivot is a sophisticated and powerful database produced by Proquest, which states that it offers researchers a number of opportunities:

‘·  Funding Opportunities: Comprehensive global source of funding opportunities.

·  Pre-populated Scholar Profiles: Your institution's profiles matched against funding opportunities. Find collaborators from among 3 million profiles worldwide.

·  Collaborative Work Flow: Connects research development professionals and faculty. Cultivates essential partnerships and alliances.’

   Customise. Connect. Collaborate.

Research Professional states that it has two main facilities:

‘Funding Database: Our comprehensive funding database contains detailed information on thousands of funding opportunities from sponsors from all around the world. From the largest research council to the smallest private charity, from travel grants to industry fellowships, our team of analysts searches high and low for research funding opportunities so that you don’t have to.

News service: Our flagship newspapers, Research Fortnight and Research Europe, covers UK and pan-European affairs in depth. We also have dedicated online coverage of the US, Australia, Africa and European nations including Germany, France, Sweden, the Netherlands and Ireland. We assess the impact of new policies on universities, companies and researchers. Opinion pieces from senior figures feed back into the policy debate. We range across all disciplines, from particle physics to cancer, through sociology and on to dance. And we stretch out into the interface between research and the wider world, including companies and other users of research.’
