Have you ever wondered what it would be like to spend a semester or two studying abroad? Or to adjust to a new culture, new people, a new environment, new food, etc.? You can find out by taking advantage of some of the many opportunities available at the International Exchange Office!
AUS's International Exchange Office (IXO) promotes cultural diversity and meaningful international engagement and interaction across the AUS academic community. We do this by:
- facilitating incoming and outgoing study abroad opportunities for students and faculty
- administering study tours
- welcoming international visiting delegations, scholars and guests to our beautiful campus
- providing information about international internships and scholarships
- developing new partnerships with universities around the world
- administering tuition exchange programs as a benefit for faculty and staff
- hosting a range of international events on campus
- generally advocating for international exchange opportunities within AUS, the UAE and around the world
International exchange at AUS has grown considerably since it was founded in January 2010. This spring semester, we have 44 study abroad and transient students studying at AUS from universities in the US, the Netherlands and Germany. At the same time, eight AUS students are studying abroad in the US (including at Harvard University!), the UK and Canada. We expect record numbers of AUS students to go abroad in the Fall 2013 after receiving 25 outgoing applications.
IXO has an excellent team of eight international exchange advisors, most of whom have recently returned from study abroad themselves. They are available to meet with AUS students and to answer queries from students around the world. We are here to facilitate your international exchange experience, and we are delighted to work with you before, during and after your international adventure. Students studying abroad at AUS this semester are enjoying a wide range of social and cultural experiences, including outings to the various Emirates, Arabic Conversation Hours, travelogues, movie nights, birthday and holiday celebrations, and many more activities to come.
IXO is also sending and receiving a range of study tours and visiting scholars. Upcoming study tours from AUS will be travelling to cities within the USA, Spain and Pakistan. We have recently welcomed visiting delegations from King Faisal University, Saudi Arabia; NHTV International University of Applied Sciences, The Netherlands; and the Center for International Educational Exchanges (CIEE) in the USA. Upcoming visiting delegations will be visiting AUS from Lund University in Sweden; Fort Lewis College in the USA; and Hochschule RheinMain in Germany. Meanwhile, visiting scholars from the University of Khartoum in Sudan, Sultan Qaboos University in Oman, Michigan University in the USA, Yildiz Technical University in Turkey, Cambridge University in the UK, and others are conducting research at AUS.
These are just some of our many activities this semester. Please feel free to drop by our offices in the AUS Main Building to learn more, or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
